They are a really beautiful little fish that's fairly peaceful in temperament and perfect for a South American community. The aquarium should be at least 60L in size with soft acidic water and dark substrate. Plants are recommended as these fish will use them as hiding places as well as territory markers. The aquarium must be mature before adding the Apistogrammas as they are very sensitive to poor water quality. Good filtration and frequent partial water changes are essential, but the water movement needs to be quite gentle.
