Silver Dollar. Silver Dollar Metynnis hypsauchen Care Level: Easy Max Size: 20cm Diet: Omnivore Temperature: 24-28°C PH: 6.0-7.5 Temperament: Peaceful Purchase Size:4-5cm The Silver Dollar is a shy shoaling species of fish that grows to a substantial size. Like most disc shaped characins, silver dollars are extremely skittish and have a tendency to go darting all over the place. For that reason, the aquarium decor should be carefully chosen to accommodate hiding spaces, but also avoid the fish injuring themselves when darting for cover. Rounded rocks and large pieces for bog wood would be ideal, along with shaded areas. They aquarium itself should be at least 6ft long to allow space for these fish as they must be kept in shoals of at least 6 specimens. A tight fitting lid is essential as they often jump out of the water when spooked and the filtration should be powerful with a strong flow. Plants are n. Source: Shirley Aquatics Tropical Livestock.
