They were bred from multiple species to create this colourful look and are favoured by many Malawi keepers. Their aquarium should be large and dressed with plenty of rocks to act as a form of real estate for the fish to establish their territories on. These cichlids need hard water with a high pH and this is typically achieved by using ocean rock and/or coral sand. With that said, dark substrate brings out the colours better and makes the peacocks feel safer. Plants are not recommended for this species as they will most likely eat them.
