Like all Hillstreams, they have some special requirements, but unlike most Hillstreams, they are not cold water tolerant. This fish prefers fast currents and highly oxygenated water and the aquarium should reflect that. Adding an oversized filtration system will help increase flow and the addition of a venturi system will help with dissolved oxygen. Smooth rocks and drift wood are a welcome addition as they offer the loach real estate and something to hold on to.
