Geophagus Brasiliensis
Geophagus brasiliensis
Description
Geophagus Brasiliensis. Geophagus Brasiliensis Care level: Easy Max Size: 30cm Diet: Omnivore Temp: 22-28°C PH: 6-7.5 Purchase size: 7-9cm The Geophagus Brasiliensis or Pearl Cichlid is a large South American Cichlid, originating (as the name suggests) from Brazil. They are a fairly peaceful species, despite their size and one of the very few Cichlids that need to be kept in shoals. Ideally, we would recommend 6 or more specimens to create the shoal so that a natural hierarchy can be formed and there will be less squabbling. The aquarium must be very large with fine sand substrate as these fish, like all Geophagus, are sand sifters. There should be a wide open area for the fish to utilise for their foraging and flow should be moderate with some areas out of the current for resting. Plants should be chosen carefully as they are likely to be dug up. Epiphytes like Java Fern and Anubias can be attached to wood and. Source: Shirley Aquatics Tropical Livestock.
