Truly an underrated fish, they make an excellent addition to aquariums with very colourful centrepiece fish and don’t tend to cause any trouble. They are best maintained in an aquarium with soft, acidic water with other species of similar temperament. They should be kept in a shoal of 6 or more individuals, but a larger number will really bring out the best in these fish. The aquarium should be planted with plenty of hiding spots and a wide open swimming space in the centre. To achieve the soft acidic conditions that these fish thrive in, bog wood can be.
