Sometimes referred to as Macaw Cichlids, the adults will colour up into a majestic yellow and blue form. Females tend to be more colourful and retain the vivid black bar that runs along the lateral line whilst the males develop a noticeable nuchal hump and the black bar often becomes a single dot at the centre of the body. As far as central American Cichlids go, this is one of the more peaceful species to keep. They can however be exceptionally territorial when breeding, so a very large tank of 400L upwards is a must if a pair are to be kept with other Cichlids.
