It is a medium sized cichlid that's moderately peaceful and easy to keep. It has been very popular among aquarists. The aquarium should be at least 4ft long with soft substrate and plenty of bogwood and rocks for the fish to explore or hide in. Plants are a welcome addition, but these fish are known for digging, so epiphytes such as anubias and Java fern would be recommended, along with floating plants.
