It is found in both freshwater and brackish areas and can adapt to a wide range in-between with a wide range of temperatures. The aquarium should be mature and water needs to be hard and alkaline for this species to thrive and the substrate should be sand. Add plenty of rocks, plants and caves for hiding places and enrichment. Water movement should be fairly gentle.
