But once they are offered a suitable environment, they are one of the most striking fish available in the hobby! These fish should be kept in a shoal of 6 or more individuals of both male and female to get the best out of them. Unlike most tropical barbs, Black Rubies can adapt to an enormous range of conditions and are even suitable for temperate aquariums as long as a the temperatures remain at 18°C or above, so a heater can be used as a failsafe for the winter months.
